Bonding
Bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment used to repair a number of cosmetic problems with teeth. If you aren’t happy with the way your smile looks, you may want to consider this service from the Center for Family & Implant Dentistry. The results look similar to porcelain veneers, but the cost is far lower. With dental bonding, teeth can look both beautiful and totally natural.
Bonding Fixes Cosmetic Flaws
For patients with stained teeth or who have certain other cosmetic flaws, dental bonding can be used to fix them. Some tooth stains won’t respond to teeth whitening kits. Deep staining can occur with certain types of antibiotics or too much fluoride. When you have these stains, dental bonding is a great way to cover them and create a surface that is a much lighter color.
Bonding is also used to create a different shape for a tooth, to fill in small problem areas. It can help with cracks and chips as well as broken teeth. This is an easy treatment to get, and it doesn’t take very long to see great results.
Dr. MacConnell will etch the teeth with very small marks, allowing them to hold the bonding material made from a composite resin. Then, the resin is applied in a few layers. Once it’s applied, the dentist uses a UV light to cure it so that it’s hard. With the bonding completed, the dentist will then polish the resin and shape it so that it looks like a natural part of your teeth. It will have the shine of natural teeth and be indistinguishable from them.
How Do You Care for Dental Bonding?
After receiving your bonding, you care for those teeth just as you would any other tooth. They will need brushing and flossing as well as semi-annual cleanings and dental exams. Choose a less abrasive toothpaste so that you don’t brush away any of the bonding layers. Make sure that you care for your bonding by never using your teeth as a tool to cut tape or bags.
