Dental Technology
Dentistry today is improving thanks to the many innovations in the field. With the advancements in technology, procedures are becoming easier for patients and even more effective.
The Center for Family & Implant Dentistry wants our patients to get the best dental treatments possible and for them to stay comfortable at all times. We use the latest equipment in our Bluff City and Kingsport offices to ensure that happens.
The LANAP Laser Treatment for Gums
This procedure, which stands for Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure, is a high-tech way to fight gum disease. It keeps patients more comfortable as it removes diseased tissue. This system is much less invasive than treatments used in the past. The intelligent laser can see which gum tissue is diseased and which is healthy. Then, it removes only the diseased tissue. It kills the bacteria that causes gum disease and doesn’t affect any healthy tissue.
Getting New, Digital X-Rays
This high-tech way to get X-rays uses digital imagery to see the mouth for better diagnosis and treatments. It also allows for easier monitoring of different oral and dental conditions. Digital X-rays are also known as dental radiographs. They can be taken from outside the mouth as well as inside it. When they’re taken outside, it is often to monitor the jaw and look for impacted teeth.
Taking Digital Impressions of Your Mouth
In the past, physical impressions of the teeth were needed for certain procedures. Today, this method can be used to get a full impression of the mouth with lasers. This new technology allows Dr. MacConnell to make a virtual replica of your mouth in the digital space, including the hard and soft tissues. These digital impressions are detailed and extremely accurate. Because no physical impression is made, it is less messy and more comfortable for patients.
The Innovative Intraoral Camera
This new dental technology is changing how routine dental appointments are done. This camera allows for extremely detailed looks at every tooth so that Dr. MacConnell can find problems more easily. This allows you to have more information to make treatment decisions.
An intraoral camera hooks to a computer. Then, a small wand is placed into your mouth. This wand takes a detailed video inside it. The dentist can then have that video magnified by 30 times to see every detail. This is a great way for him to know everything going on in your mouth and for you to be comfortable throughout it.
Using CAD-CAM Technology
This type of technology is short for computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. It allows for planning, designing, and creating dental prostheses. It can be used to make items such as bridges, dentures, crowns, inlays, veneers, and more. It is cost-effective as well as accurate. CAD-CAM technology continues to get better, and using it today is a great way to get a highly accurate prosthesis.
